Commander requires a Google account to get started. On first launch, you’ll see the login screen with a Sign in with Google button. This creates your Commander account and authenticates you.

Onboarding

After signing in for the first time, Commander walks you through a three-step onboarding flow:
1

Connect a Repository

Add your first local git repository to Commander. You can add more repositories later from the sidebar.
2

Managers

Learn about the manager system — a per-repository AI coordinator that monitors your agents, manages goals, and takes action on your behalf.
3

Awareness

Configure the awareness system — a persistent memory layer that gives managers continuous context about workspace state and enables proactive action.
You can skip onboarding and complete it later, or reset it from Settings → Account.

Account Management

Manage your Commander account in Settings → Account:
  • Profile — View your name, email, and avatar
  • Sign Out — Sign out of Commander
  • Reset Onboarding — Re-run the onboarding flow to reconfigure initial settings

Session

Your authentication session is managed automatically:
  • Sessions persist across app restarts
  • Commander shows the session expiration time
  • If your session expires, you’ll be prompted to sign in again

Claude Accounts

Claude accounts (separate from your Commander login) power the AI agents. See Integrations for details on adding Claude accounts via CLI detection, OAuth, or API key.
